  1. The cords of the wicked have wrapped me round; ButI have not forgotten thy law.

  2. Men do not despise a thief, if he steal To satisfy himself when he is hungry:

  3. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; He shall give all the substance of his house.

  4. The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away, Because they refuse to do justice.

  5. For I, Jehovah, love justice, I hate robbery with iniquity; and I will give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

  6. As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets;

  7. Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods that ye have not known,

  8. and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that ye may do all these abominations?

  9. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yea, they have vexed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the sojourner wrongfully.

  10. Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

  11. There is nought but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

  12. If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night (how art thou cut off!), would they not steal only till they had enough? if grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

  13. Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.

  14. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole land: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off on the one side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off on the other side according to it.

  15. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:

  16. but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

  17. For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings:

  18. He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

  19. and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers.

  20. Then are there crucified with him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left.

  21. And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

  22. For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

  23. covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

  24. And he taught, and said unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but ye have made it a den of robbers.

  25. And with him they crucify two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.
