  1. Our fathers sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities.

  2. Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.

  3. Thou art the daughter of thy mother, that loatheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

  4. And I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

  12. And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer.

  13. And of which of you that is a father shall his son ask a loaf, and he give him a stone? or a fish, and he for a fish give him a serpent?

  14. Or if he shall ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?

  15. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

  16. He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

  17. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

  18. Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a burden to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

  19. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord.

  20. Fathers, provoke not your children, that they be not discouraged.

  21. as ye know how we dealt with each one of you, as a father with his own children, exhorting you, and encouraging you, and testifying,

  22. one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

  23. (but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

  24. Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

  25. But if any provideth not for his own, and specially his own household, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
