  9. But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.

  10. Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

  11. but I say unto you, Resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

  12. And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

  13. And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.

  14. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

  15. Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy:

  16. but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

  17. that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

  18. The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and every man entereth violently into it.

  19. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.

  20. Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?

  21. But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,

  22. Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Cæsar’s.

  23. And he said unto them, Then render unto Cæsar the things that are Cæsar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.

  24. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

  25. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.
