  1. for many walk of whom many times I told you--and now also weeping tell--the enemies of the cross of the Christ!

  9. and those wishing to be rich, do fall into temptation and a snare, and many desires, foolish and hurtful, that sink men into ruin and destruction,

  10. for a root of all the evils is the love of money, which certain longing for did go astray from the faith, and themselves did pierce through with many sorrows;

  11. and thou, O man of God, these things flee, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness;

  12. Go, now, ye who are saying, `To-day and to-morrow we will go on to such a city, and will pass there one year, and traffic, and make gain;'

  13. who do not know the thing of the morrow; for what is your life? for it is a vapour that is appearing for a little, and then is vanishing;

  14. instead of your saying, `If the Lord may will, we shall live, and do this or that;'

  15. and now ye glory in your pride; all such glorying is evil;

  16. to him, then, knowing to do good, and not doing, sin it is to him.

  17. And there did come also false prophets among the people, as also among you there shall be false teachers, who shall bring in besides destructive sects, and the Master who bought them denying, bringing to themselves quick destruction,

  18. and many shall follow out their destructive ways, because of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of,

  19. and in covetousness, with moulded words, of you they shall make merchandise, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction doth not slumber.

  20. having eyes full of adultery, and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having an heart exercised in covetousnesses, children of a curse,

  21. having forsaken a right way, they did go astray, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who a reward of unrighteousness did love,

  22. and had a rebuke of his own iniquity--a dumb ass, in man's voice having spoken, did forbid the madness of the prophet.

  23. Love not ye the world, nor the things in the world; if any one doth love the world, the love of the Father is not in him,

  24. because all that is in the world--the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of the life--is not of the Father, but of the world,

  25. and the world doth pass away, and the desire of it, and he who is doing the will of God, he doth remain--to the age.
