  1. The LORD said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”

  15. Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

  16. Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

  17. Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

  18. Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.

  19. He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

  20. But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn’t utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

  21. Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

  22. Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you, and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

  23. and that all this assembly may know that the LORD doesn’t save with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hand.”

  24. for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?”

  25. David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old, as you go to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
