He said, “The LORD has sworn: ‘The LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.’”

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Avenge the children of Israel for the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”

When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you, the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you;

and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them; then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them;

Samuel said to Saul, “The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the LORD’s words.

Thus says the LORD of Hosts, ‘I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way, when he came up out of Egypt.

Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
