  1. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

  2. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

  3. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

  4. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

  6. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

  7. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

  8. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

  9. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

  10. ¶ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

  11. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

  12. And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

  13. Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

  14. Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

  15. But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

  16. These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

  17. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

  18. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

  19. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

  20. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

  21. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

  22. ¶ Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

  23. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

  24. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

  25. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
