  1. But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

  2. Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

  3. The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

  4. Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

  5. In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

  6. But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.

  7. Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

  8. ¶ Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

  9. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

  10. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

  11. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

  12. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

  13. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

  14. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  15. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

  16. And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

  17. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

  18. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

  19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

  20. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

  21. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

  22. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

  23. ¶ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

  24. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

  25. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
