  1. Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

  2. Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

  3. ¶ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

  4. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

  5. Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

  6. ¶ For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  7. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

  8. ¶ And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

  9. But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

  10. ¶ I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

  11. Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

  12. ¶ Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

  13. Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

  14. The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

  15. But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

  16. According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

  17. ¶ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

  18. But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

  19. But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

  20. Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

  21. ¶ Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

  22. And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

  23. ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

  24. And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

  25. For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
