  1. ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

  2. Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.

  3. I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

  4. ¶ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

  5. ¶ And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

  6. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

  7. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

  8. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

  9. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

  10. ¶ Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

  11. Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

  12. Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

  13. For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

  14. Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

  15. If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

  16. For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

  17. For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

  18. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

  19. But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

  20. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

  21. Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

  22. ¶ Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

  23. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

  24. That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.

  25. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
