  1. For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.

  2. Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:

  3. And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

  9. The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

  10. Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

  11. ¶ They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:

  12. But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

  13. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

  14. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

  15. And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

  16. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

  17. Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

  18. And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

  19. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

  20. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

  21. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:

  22. They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:

  23. They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

  24. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

  25. ¶ The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
