  1. If my people, among whome my Name is called vpon, doe humble them selues, and praye, and seeke my presence, and turne from their wicked wayes, then will I heare in heauen, and be mercifull to their sinne, and wil heale their land:

  2. Then mine eies shalbe open and mine eares attent vnto the prayer made in this place.

  3. For I haue nowe chosen and sanctified this house, that my Name may be there for euer: and mine eyes and mine heart shalbe there perpetually.

  4. And if thou wilt walke before me, as Dauid thy father walked, to doe according vnto all that I haue commanded thee, and shalt obserue my statutes and my iudgements,

  5. Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdome, according as I made the couenant with Dauid thy father, saying, Thou shalt not want a man to be ruler in Israel.

  6. But if ye turne away, and forsake my statutes and my commandements which I haue set before you, and shall goe and serue other gods, and worshippe them,

  7. Then will I plucke them vp out of my lande, which I haue giuen them, and this house which I haue sanctified for my Name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a prouerbe and a common talke among all people.

  8. And this house which is most hie, shall be an astonishment to euery one that passeth by it, so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus to this lande, and to this house?

  9. And they shall answere, Because they forsooke the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the lande of Egypt, and haue taken holde on other gods, and haue worshipped them, and serued them, therefore hath he brought all this euill vpon them.

  10. And sayd, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord hath giuen, and the Lord hath taken it: blessed be the Name of the Lord.

  11. But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

  12. For miserie commeth not foorth of the dust, neither doeth affliction spring out of the earth.

  13. But man is borne vnto trauaile, as the sparkes flie vpwarde.

  14. But I would inquire at God, and turne my talke vnto God:

  15. Which doeth great things and vnsearchable, and marueilous things without nomber.

  16. He giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,

  17. And setteth vp on hie them that be lowe, that the sorowfull may be exalted to saluation.

  18. He scattereth the deuices of the craftie: so that their handes can not accomplish that which they doe enterprise.

  19. He taketh the wise in their craftinesse, and the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.

  20. They meete with darkenesse in the day time, and grope at noone day, as in the night.

  21. But he saueth the poore from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hande of the violent man,

  22. So that the poore hath his hope, but iniquitie shall stop her mouth.

  23. Beholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.

  24. For he maketh the wound, and bindeth it vp: he smiteth, and his handes make whole.

  25. He shall deliuer thee in sixe troubles, and in the seuenth the euill shall not touch thee.
