  1. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come vpon thee, at the length if thou returne to the Lord thy God, and bee obedient vnto his voyce,

  2. (For the Lord thy God is a mercifull God) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the couenant of thy fathers, which hee sware vnto them.

  3. Nowe when all these things shall come vpon thee, either the blessing or the curse which I haue set before thee, and thou shalt turne into thine heart, among all the nations whither the Lord thy God hath driuen thee,

  4. And shalt returne vnto the Lord thy God, and obey his voyce in all that I commaund thee this day: thou, and thy children with all thine heart and with all thy soule,

  5. When thy people Israel shall be ouerthrowen before the enemie, because they haue sinned against thee, and turne againe to thee, and confesse thy Name, and pray and make supplication vnto thee in this house,

  6. When heauen shalbe shut vp, and there shalbe no raine because they haue sinned against thee, and shall pray in this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them,

  7. Yet if they turne againe vnto their heart in the lande (to the which they be caryed away captiues) and returne and pray vnto thee in the lande of them that caryed them away captiues, saying, We haue sinned, we haue transgressed, and done wickedly,

  8. If they turne againe vnto thee with all their heart, and with all their soule in the lande of their enemies, which led them away captiues, and pray vnto thee toward the way of their land, which thou gauest vnto their fathers, and toward the citie which thou hast chosen, and the house, which I haue built for thy Name,

  9. Then heare thou their prayer and their supplication in heauen thy dwelling place, and iudge their cause,

  10. And be mercifull vnto thy people that haue sinned against thee, and vnto all their iniquities (wherein they haue transgressed against thee) and cause that they, which led them away captiues, may haue pitie and compassion on them:

  11. For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out of Egypt from the middes of the yron fornace.

  12. Let thine eyes be open vnto the prayer of thy seruant, and vnto the prayer of thy people Israel, to hearken vnto them, in all that they call for vnto thee.

  13. For thou diddest separate them to thee from among all people of the earth for an inheritance, as thou saidest by the hand of Moses thy seruant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.

  14. When there shalbe famine in the land, when there shalbe pestilence, blasting, or mildew, when there shall be grashopper, or caterpiller, when their enemie shall besiege them in the cities of their land, or any plague or any sickenesse,

  15. Then what prayer and supplication so euer shalbe made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, whe euery one shall knowe his owne plague, and his owne disease, and shall stretch forth his hands toward this house,

  16. Heare thou then in heauen, thy dwelling place, and be merciful, and giue euery man according vnto all his wayes, as thou doest knowe his heart (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men)

  17. That they may feare thee, and walke in thy wayes as long as they liue in the land which thou gauest vnto our fathers.

  18. For miserie commeth not foorth of the dust, neither doeth affliction spring out of the earth.

  19. But man is borne vnto trauaile, as the sparkes flie vpwarde.

  20. But I would inquire at God, and turne my talke vnto God:

  21. Which doeth great things and vnsearchable, and marueilous things without nomber.

  22. He giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,

  23. And setteth vp on hie them that be lowe, that the sorowfull may be exalted to saluation.

  24. Beholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.

  25. But he knoweth my way, and trieth mee, and I shall come forth like the gold.
