Key Bible Verses
Watch ye therefore (for you know not when the lord of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning):
Lest coming on a sudden, he find you sleeping.
And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch.
And he cometh and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Couldst thou not watch one hour?
Watch ye: and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
And when she had seen Peter warming himself looking on him, she saith: Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
But he denied, saying: I neither know nor understand what thou sayest. And he went forth before the court; and the cock crew.
And again a maidservant seeing him, began to say to the standers by: This is one of them.
But he denied again. And after a, while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.
But he began o curse and to swear, saying: I know not this man of whom you speak.
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan and was led the by the spirit into the desert,
For the space of forty days, and was tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.
And the devil said to him: If thou be the Son of God, say to this stone that it be made bread.
And Jesus answered him: is written that Man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word of God.
And the devil led him into a high mountain and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And he said to him: To thee will I give all this power and the glory of them. For to me they are delivered: and to whom I will, I give them.
If thou therefore wilt adore before me, all shall be thine.
And Jesus answering said to him. It is written: Thou shalt adore the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
And he brought him to Jerusalem and set him on a pinnacle of the temple and said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself from hence.
For it is written that He hath given his angels charge over thee that they keep thee.
And that in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.
And Jesus answering, said to him: It is said: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
And all the temptation being ended, the devil departed from him for a time.
Now they upon the rock are they who when they hear receive the word with joy: and these have no roots: for they believe for a while and in time of temptation they fall away.
And that which fell among thorns are they who have heard and, going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life and yield no fruit.
