Be not like your fathers, and brethren, who departed from the Lord the God of their fathers, and he hath given them up to destruction, as you see.
Harden not your necks, as your fathers did: yield yourselves to the Lord, and come to his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified forever: serve the Lord the God of your fathers, and the wrath of his indignation shall be turned away from you.
For if you turn again to the Lord, your brethren, and children shall find mercy before their masters, that have led them away captive, and they shall return into this land: for the Lord your God is merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.
So the posts went speedily from city to city, through the land of Ephraim, and of Manasses, even to Zabulon, whilst they laughed at them and mocked them.
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.
Who have said to God: Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what doth it profit us if we pray to him?
What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence:
Sent forth thy light and thy truth: they have conducted me, and brought me unto thy holy hill, and into thy tabernacles.
As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever?
Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off ? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our armies?
O children, how long will you love childishness, and fools covet those things which are hurtful to themselves, and the unwise hate knowledge?
You have despised all my counsel, and have neglected my reprehensions.
He shall scorn the scorners, and to the meek he will give grace.
If thou be wise, thou shalt be so to thyself: and if a scorner, thou alone shalt bear the evil.
A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, heareth not when he is reproved.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: the learning of the wise is easy.
A fool will laugh at sin, but among the just grace shall abide.
Judgments are prepared for scorners: and striking hammers for the bodies of fools.
