  1. The damsel shall suffer nothing, neither is she guilty of death: for as a robber riseth against his brother, and taketh away his life, so also did the damsel suffer:

  2. She was alone in the field: she cried, and there was no man to help her.

  3. If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, who is not espoused, and taking her, lie with her, and the matter come to judgment:

  4. He that lay with her shall give to the father of the maid fifty sicles of silver, and shall have her to wife, because he hath humbled her: he may not put her away all the days of his life.

  5. There shall be no whore among the daughters of Israel, nor whoremonger among the sons of Israel.

  6. Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife, and uncovereth his bed: and all the people shall say: Amen.

  7. Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or of his mother: and all the people shall say: Amen.

  8. Cursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law: and all the people shall say: Amen.

  9. There was a certain Levite, who dwelt on the side of mount Ephraim, who took a wife of Bethlehem Juda:

  10. And she left him, and returned to her father's house in Bethlehem, and abode with him four months.

  11. And her husband followed her, willing to be reconciled with her, and to speak kindly to her, and to bring her back with him, having with him a servant and two asses: and she received him, and brought him into her father's house. And when his father in law had heard this, and had seen him, he met him with joy,

  12. And embraced the man. And the son in law tarried in the house of his father in law three days, eating with him and drinking familiarly.

  13. Therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house, because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Urias the Hethite to be thy wife.

  14. Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them to thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

  15. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in the sight of the sun.

  16. Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing, the child that is born to thee, shall surely die.

  17. The eye of the adulterer observeth darkness, saying: No eye shall see me: and he will cover his face.

  18. He diggeth through houses in the dark, as in the day they had appointed for themselves, and they have not known the light.

  19. If the morning suddenly appear, it is to them the shadow of death: and they walk in darkness as if it were in light.

  20. He is light upon the face of the water: cursed be his portion on the earth, let him not walk by the way of the vineyards.

  21. I made a covenant with my eyes, that I would not so much as think upon a virgin.

  22. If my heart hath been deceived upon a woman, and if I have laid wait at my friend's door:

  23. Let my wife be the harlot of another, and let other men lie with her.

  24. For this is a heinous crime, and a most grievous iniquity.

  25. It is a fire that devoureth even to destruction, and rooteth up all things that spring.
