  1. And vnto the mayd thou shalt do nothing, because there is in the mayde no cause of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour and woundeth him to death, so is this matter.

  2. For he found her in the fieldes: the betrothed mayde cryed, and there was no man to succour her.

  3. If a man finde a mayde that is not betrothed, and take her, and lye with her, and they be founde,

  4. Then the man that lay with her, shall giue vnto the maydes father fiftie shekels of siluer: and she shalbe his wife, because he hath humbled her: he can not put her away all his life.

  5. There shalbe no whore of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a whore keeper of the sonnes of Israel.

  6. Cursed be hee that lyeth with his fathers wife: for he hath vncouered his fathers skirt: And all the people shall say: So be it.

  7. Cursed be he that lyeth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother: And all the people shall say: So be it.

  8. Cursed be he that lyeth with his mother in law: And all the people shall say: So be it.

  9. Also in those dayes, when there was no king in Israel, a certaine Leuite dwelt on the side of mount Ephraim, and tooke to wife a concubine out of Beth-lehem Iudah,

  10. And his concubine played ye whore there, and went away from him vnto her fathers house to Beth-lehem Iudah, and there continued the space of foure moneths.

  11. And her husband arose and went after her, to speake friendly vnto her, and to bring her againe: he had also his seruant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him vnto her fathers house, and when the yong womans father sawe him, he reioyced of his comming.

  12. And his father in lawe, the yong womans father reteined him: and he abode with him three dayes: so they did eate and drinke, and lodged there.

  13. Now therefore the sworde shall neuer depart from thine house, because thou hast despised me, and taken the wife of Vriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

  14. Thus sayth the Lord, Behold, I will rayse vp euil against thee out of thine owne house, and will take thy wiues before thine eyes, and giue them vnto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wiues in the sight of this sunne.

  15. For thou diddest it secretly: but I will doe this thing before all Israel, and before the sunne.

  16. Howbeit because by this deede thou hast caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the childe that is borne vnto thee shall surely die.

  17. The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, and sayth, None eye shall see me, and disguiseth his face.

  18. They digge through houses in the darke, which they marked for themselues in the daye: they knowe not the light.

  19. But the morning is euen to them as the shadow of death: if one knowe them, they are in the terrours of the shadowe of death.

  20. He is swift vpon the waters: their portion shalbe cursed in the earth: he will not behold the way of the vineyardes.

  21. I made a couenant with mine eyes: why then should I thinke on a mayde?

  22. If mine heart hath bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at the doore of my neighbour,

  23. Let my wife grinde vnto another man, and let other men bow downe vpon her:

  24. For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned:

  25. Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase,
