God caused the chief officer to be kind and sympathetic toward Dani'el;
however, the chief officer said to Dani'el, "I'm afraid of my lord the king. After all, he has given you an allowance of food and drink; so if he were to see you boys looking worse than the others your age, you would be putting my own head in danger from the king."

So the guard took away their food and the wine they were supposed to drink, and gave them vegetables.
I hadn't eaten any food that satisfied me - neither meat nor wine had entered my mouth, and I didn't anoint myself once, until three full weeks had passed.

and said to him, "All this I will give you if you will bow down and worship me."
"Away with you, Satan!" Yeshua told him, "For the Tanakh says, `Worship ADONAI your God, and serve only him.'"
If your right eye makes you sin, gouge it out and throw it away! Better that you should lose one part of you than have your whole body thrown into Gei-Hinnom.
And if your right hand makes you sin, cut it off and throw it away! Better that you should lose one part of you than have your whole body thrown into Gei-Hinnom.
A Torah-teacher approached and said to him, "Rabbi, I will follow you wherever you go."
Yeshua said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds flying about have nests, but the Son of Man has no home of his own."
Another of the talmidim said to him, "Sir, first let me go and bury my father."
But Yeshua replied, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
Whoever loves his father or mother more than he loves me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than he loves me is not worthy of me.
And anyone who does not take up his execution-stake and follow me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his own life will lose it, but the person who loses his life for my sake will find it.
"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, hid it again, then in great joy went and sold everything he owned, and bought that field.
"Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for fine pearls.
