  1. How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

  2. Are you committed to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Are you free of commitment? Do not look for a wife.

  3. But if you do marry, you have not sinned. And if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.

  4. What I am saying, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none;

  5. I want you to be free from concern. The unmarried man is concerned about the work of the Lord, how he can please the Lord.

  6. But the married man is concerned about the affairs of this world, how he can please his wife,

  7. and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the work of the Lord, how she can be holy in both body and spirit. But the married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world, how she can please her husband.

  8. So then, he who marries the virgin does well, but he who does not marry her does even better.

  9. A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, as long as he belongs to the Lord.

  10. In my judgment, however, she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

  11. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

  12. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.

  13. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is just as if her head were shaved.

  14. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.

  15. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

  16. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.

  17. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

  18. For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.

  19. In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

  20. For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

  21. Women are to be silent in the churches. They are not permitted to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.

  22. If they wish to inquire about something, they are to ask their own husbands at home; for it is dishonorable for a woman to speak in the church.

  23. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

  24. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior.

  25. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
