  1. A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.

  11. He will not escape from the darkness; the flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God’s mouth will carry him away.

  12. Let him not deceive himself with trust in emptiness, for emptiness will be his reward.

  13. It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not flourish.

  14. He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.

  15. For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.

  16. They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb is pregnant with deceit.”

  17. Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.

  18. The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.

  19. His vigorous stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.

  20. For his own feet lead him into a net, and he wanders into its mesh.

  21. A trap seizes his heel; a snare grips him.

  22. A noose is hidden in the ground, and a trap lies in his path.

  23. Terrors frighten him on every side and harass his every step.

  24. His strength is depleted, and calamity is ready at his side.

  25. It devours patches of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
