  12. and said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness, you are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery! Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

  13. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools,

  14. slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents.

  15. For when you were slaves to sin, you were free of obligation to righteousness.

  16. So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring.

  17. What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction?

  18. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Can’t you see for yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you actually fail the test?

  19. And I hope you will realize that we have not failed the test.

  20. Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what is right, even if we appear to have failed.

  21. in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.

  22. All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.

  23. so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world

  24. For as I have often told you before, and now say again even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

  25. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.
