  1. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops.

  11. Then they came to Capernaum. While Jesus was in the house, He asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

  12. But they were silent, for on the way they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.

  13. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all.”

  14. Then He had a little child stand among them. Taking the child in His arms, He said to them,

  15. “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me.”

  16. A dispute also arose among the disciples as to which of them would be considered the greatest.

  17. So Jesus declared, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them call themselves benefactors.

  18. But you shall not be like them. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who leads like the one who serves.

  19. For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But I am among you as one who serves.

  20. You are the ones who have stood by Me in My trials.

  21. And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as My Father has bestowed one on Me,

  22. so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

  23. And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, gathered together

  24. and saying, “The Lord has indeed risen and has appeared to Simon!”

  25. Then the two told what had happened on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread.
