  1. And lo, thou art to them as a singer of doting loves, A pleasant voice, and playing well on an instrument, And they have heard thy words, and they are not doing them.

  2. `He who is loving father or mother above me, is not worthy of me, and he who is loving son or daughter above me, is not worthy of me,

  3. and because of the abounding of the lawlessness, the love of the many shall become cold;

  4. and thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of thy soul, and out of all thine understanding, and out of all thy strength--this is the first command;

  5. `And those upon the rock: They who, when they may hear, with joy do receive the word, and these have no root, who for a time believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

  6. `If any one doth come unto me, and doth not hate his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and yet even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple;

  8. unintelligent, faithless, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful;

  9. this knowing, that our old man was crucified with him , that the body of the sin may be made useless, for our no longer serving the sin;

  10. for if according to the flesh ye do live, ye are about to die; and if, by the Spirit, the deeds of the body ye put to death, ye shall live;

  11. in the love of brethren, to one another kindly affectioned: in the honour going before one another;

  12. but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and for the flesh take no forethought--for desires.

  13. but I chastise my body, and bring it into servitude, lest by any means, having preached to others--I myself may become disapproved.

  14. because of this we have been comforted in your comfort, and more abundantly the more did we rejoice in the joy of Titus, that his spirit hath been refreshed from you all;

  15. because if anything to him in your behalf I have boasted, I was not put to shame; but as all things in truth we did speak to you, so also our boasting before Titus became truth,

  16. and his tender affection is more abundantly toward you, remembering the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye did receive him;

  17. for now men do I persuade, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if yet men I did please--Christ's servant I should not be.

  18. what then was your happiness? for I testify to you, that if possible, your eyes having plucked out, ye would have given to me;

  19. they are zealous for you-- yet not well, but they wish to shut us out, that for them ye may be zealous;

  20. and it is good to be zealously regarded, in what is good, at all times, and not only in my being present with you;

  21. and those who are Christ's, the flesh did crucify with the affections, and the desires;

  22. If, then, ye were raised with the Christ, the things above seek ye, where the Christ is, on the right hand of God seated,

  23. the things above mind ye, not the things upon the earth,

  24. Put to death, then, your members that are upon the earth--whoredom, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and the covetousness, which is idolatry--

  25. so being desirous of you, we are well-pleased to impart to you not only the good news of God, but also our own souls, because beloved ye have become to us,
