  1. for he who did enter into his rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own.

  2. May we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one in the same example of the unbelief may fall,

  3. for the reckoning of God is living, and working, and sharp above every two-edged sword, and piercing unto the dividing asunder both of soul and spirit, of joints also and marrow, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart;

  4. because this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws into their mind, and upon their hearts I will write them, and I will be to them for a God, and they shall be to Me for a people;

  5. and they shall not teach each his neighbour, and each his brother, saying, Know thou the Lord, because they shall all know Me from the small one of them unto the great one of them,

  6. `This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws on their hearts, and upon their minds I will write them,'

  7. and `their sins and their lawlessness I will remember no more;'

  8. may we draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having the hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having the body bathed with pure water;

  9. may we hold fast the unwavering profession of the hope, (for faithful is He who did promise),

  10. having counselled, He did beget us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.

  11. Brethren, if any among you may go astray from the truth, and any one may turn him back,

  12. let him know that he who did turn back a sinner from the straying of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

  13. according to a foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied!

  14. Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to the abundance of His kindness did beget us again to a living hope, through the rising again of Jesus Christ out of the dead,

  15. Your souls having purified in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit to brotherly love unfeigned, out of a pure heart one another love ye earnestly,

  16. being begotten again, not out of seed corruptible, but incorruptible, through a word of God--living and remaining--to the age;

  17. if so be ye did taste that the Lord is gracious,

  18. and ye are a choice race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people acquired, that the excellences ye may shew forth of Him who out of darkness did call you to His wondrous light;

  19. As all things to us His divine power (the things pertaining unto life and piety) hath given, through the acknowledgement of him who did call us through glory and worthiness,

  20. through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.

  21. and you, the anointing that ye did receive from him, in you it doth remain, and ye have no need that any one may teach you, but as the same anointing doth teach you concerning all, and is true, and is not a lie, and even as was taught you, ye shall remain in him.

  22. if ye know that he is righteous, know ye that every one doing the righteousness, of him hath been begotten.

  23. every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten.

  24. we--we have known that we have passed out of the death to the life, because we love the brethren; he who is not loving the brother doth remain in the death.

  25. Beloved, may we love one another, because the love is of God, and every one who is loving, of God he hath been begotten, and doth know God;
