For the ruthless is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those who are alert to do evil are cut off—
who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.
For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. The LORD’s breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
Woe to you who destroy, but you weren’t destroyed; and who betray, but nobody betrayed you! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed; and when you have made an end of betrayal, you will be betrayed.
who brings princes to nothing; who makes the judges of the earth like meaningless.
“Now therefore, what do I do here,” says the LORD, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock,” says the LORD, “and my name continually all the day is blasphemed.
“Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?
Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and uprightness can’t enter.
Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron. I will also make your officers peace, and righteousness your ruler.
They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t judge the right of the needy.
“Shall I not punish for these things?” says the LORD. “Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Say to the king and to the queen mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headdresses have come down, even the crown of your glory.
House of David, thus says the LORD, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Thus said the LORD: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
Say, Hear the LORD’s word, king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David, you, and your servants, and your people who enter in by these gates.
Thus says the LORD: Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence, to the foreigner, the fatherless, nor the widow; neither shed innocent blood in this place.
You, deadly wounded wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day has come, in the time of the iniquity of the end,
thus says the Lord GOD: Remove the turban, and take off the crown; this will not be as it was; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high.
Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.
Her princes in its midst are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.
Son of man, tell the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord GOD: Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God—
Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and tell them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Shouldn’t the shepherds feed the sheep?
You eat the fat, and you clothe yourself with the wool, you kill the fatlings; but you don’t feed the sheep.
