  1. “Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.

  2. Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

  3. Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.

  4. “You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.

  5. Take wise men of understanding and well known according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

  6. You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

  7. You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

  8. You shall follow that which is altogether just, that you may live, and inherit the land which the LORD your God gives you.

  9. ‘Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

  10. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

  11. shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.’

  12. You, Ezra, after the wisdom of your God who is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges, who may judge all the people who are beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God; and teach him who doesn’t know them.

  13. Now therefore be wise, you kings. Be instructed, you judges of the earth.

  14. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

  15. God, give the king your justice; your righteousness to the royal son.

  16. He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

  17. The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people. The hills bring the fruit of righteousness.

  18. He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

  19. They shall fear you while the sun endures; and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

  20. He will come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.

  21. In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.

  22. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.

  23. Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.

  24. The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

  25. Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him.
