  1. The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

  2. “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’

  3. You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

  16. For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

  17. But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”; so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.

  18. The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to the sky,

  19. and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there will no longer be delay,
