  1. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

  2. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

  3. ¶ And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

  4. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

  5. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

  6. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

  7. ¶ Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

  8. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

  9. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

  10. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

  11. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

  12. ¶ In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

  13. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

  14. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

  15. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

  16. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

  17. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

  18. ¶ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

  19. While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

  20. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

  21. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

  22. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

  23. Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
