  1. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

  2. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

  3. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

  4. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

  5. Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

  6. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

  7. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

  8. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

  9. In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

  10. That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

  11. Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

  12. ¶ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

  13. To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

  14. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

  15. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

  16. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

  17. ¶ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

  18. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

  19. ¶ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

  20. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

  21. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

  22. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

  23. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

  24. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

  25. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
