  1. But they said, We will drinke no wine: for Ionadab the sonne of Rechab our father commanded vs, saying, Ye shall drinke no wine, neither you nor your sonnes for euer.

  2. Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seede, nor plant vineyarde, nor haue any, but all your dayes ye shall dwell in tentes, that ye may liue a long time in the land where ye be strangers.

  3. The very same houre was this thing fulfilled vpon Nebuchad-nezzar, and hee was driuen from men, and did eate grasse as the oxen, and his body was wet with the dewe of heauen, till his heares were growen as eagles feathers, and his nailes like birds clawes.

  4. And Belshazzar whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring him the golden and siluer vessels, which his father Nebuchad-nezzar had brought from the Temple in Ierusalem, that the King and his princes, his wiues, and his concubines might drinke therein.

  5. This is the day of our King: the princes haue made him sicke with flagons of wine: he stretcheth out his hand to scorners.

  6. But ye gaue the Nazarites wine to drinke, and commanded the Prophetes, saying, Prophecie not.

  7. Therefore, thus wil I do vnto thee, O Israel: and because I wil doe this vnto thee, prepare to meete thy God, O Israel.

  8. Then was Iesus led aside of the Spirit into the wildernes, to be tempted of the deuil.

  9. And when he had fasted fourtie dayes, and fourtie nights, he was afterward hungrie.

  10. Then came to him the tempter, and said, If thou be the Sonne of God, commande that these stones be made bread.

  11. But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not liue by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

  12. Then the deuil tooke him vp into the holy Citie, and set him on a pinacle of the temple,

  13. And said vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe: for it is written, that he wil giue his Angels charge ouer thee, and with their hands they shall lift thee vp, lest at any time thou shouldest dash thy foote against a stone.

  14. Iesus saide vnto him, It is written againe, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  15. Againe the deuil tooke him vp into an exceeding hie mountaine, and shewed him all the kingdomes of the world, and the glory of them,

  16. And sayd to him, All these will I giue thee, if thou wilt fall downe, and worship me.

  17. Then sayd Iesus vnto him, Auoyde Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him onely shalt thou serue.

  18. Then the deuill left him: and beholde, the Angels came, and ministred vnto him.

  19. Whosoeuer therefore shall breake one of these least commandements, and teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdome of heauen: but whosoeuer shall obserue and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdome of heauen.

  20. And leade vs not into tentation, but deliuer vs from euill: for thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glorie for euer. Amen.

  21. Then he goeth, and taketh vnto him seuen other spirites worse then himselfe, and they enter in, and dwell there: and the ende of that man is worse then the beginning. Euen so shall it be with this wicked generation.

  22. And hee that receiued the seede among thornes, is hee that heareth the woorde: but the care of this worlde, and the deceitfulnesse of riches choke the word, and he is made vnfruitfull.

  23. Then came the Pharises and Sadduces, and did tempt him, desiring him to shew them a signe from heauen.

  24. But whosoeuer shall offend one of these litle ones which beleeue in me, it were better for him, that a milstone were hanged about his necke, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

  25. Wo be vnto the world because of offences: for it must needes be that offences shall come, but wo be to that man by whome the offence commeth.
