  1. For before these times, rose vp Theudas boasting himselfe, to whom resorted a number of men, about a foure hundreth, who was slaine: and they all which obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

  2. Then certaine of the vagabond Iewes, exorcistes, tooke in hand to name ouer them which had euil spirits, the Name of the Lord Iesus, saying, We adiure you by Iesus, whom Paul preacheth.

  3. (And there were certaine sonnes of Sceua a Iewe, the Priest, about seuen which did this)

  4. Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

  5. But, O man, who art thou which pleadest against God? shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

  6. Hath not the potter power of the clay to make of the same lumpe one vessell to honour, and another vnto dishonour?

  7. Neither let vs tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted him, and were destroyed of serpents.

  8. Neither murmure ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

  9. Nowe all these things came vnto them for ensamples, and were written to admonish vs, vpon whome the endes of the world are come.

  10. Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heede lest he fall.

  11. Let no man deceiue you by any meanes: for that day shall not come, except there come a departing first, and that that man of sinne be disclosed, euen the sonne of perdition,

  12. Which is an aduersarie, and exalteth him selfe against all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he doeth sit as God in the Temple of God, shewing him selfe that he is God.

  13. Goe to now ye that say, To day or to morowe we will goe into such a citie, and continue there a yeere, and bye and sell, and get gaine,

  14. (And yet ye cannot tell what shalbe to morowe. For what is your life? It is euen a vapour that appeareth for a litle time, and afterward vanisheth away)

  15. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, and, if we liue, we will doe this or that.

  16. And chiefly them that walke after the flesh, in the lust of vncleannesse, and despise gouernement, which are bolde, and stand in their owne conceite, and feare not to speake euill of them that are in dignitie.

  17. Where as the Angels which are greater both in power and might, giue not railing iudgement against them before the Lord.

  18. I wrote vnto the Church: but Diotrephes which loueth to haue the preeminence among them, receiueth vs not.

  19. For thou saiest, I am rich and increased with goods, and haue neede of nothing, and knowest not howe thou art wretched and miserable, and poore, and blinde, and naked.

  20. In as much as she glorified her selfe, and liued in pleasure, so much giue ye to her torment and sorow: for she saith in her heart, I sit being a queene, and am no widowe, and shall see no mourning.

  21. Therefore shall her plagues come at one day, death, and sorowe, and famine, and she shalbe burnt with fire: for that God which condemneth her, is a strong Lord.
