For before these days rose up Theodas, affirming himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. Who was slain: and all that believed him were scattered and brought to nothing.
Now some also of the Jewish exorcists, who went about, attempted to invoke over them that had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying: I conjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preacheth.
And there were certain men, seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest, that did this.
Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death: and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.
O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?
Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour?
Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted and perished by the serpent.
Neither do you murmur, as some of them murmured and were destroyed by the destroyer.
Now all these things happened to them in figure: and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Wherefore, he that thinketh himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition
Who opposeth and is lifted up above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.
But who art thou that judgest thy neighbour? Behold, now you that say: To-day or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and there we will spend a year and will traffic and make our gain.
Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow.
For what is your life? It is a vapour which appeareth for a little while and afterwards shall vanish away. For that you should say: If the Lord will, and, If we shall live, we will do this or that.
And especially them who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government: audacious, self willed, they fear not to bring in sects, blaspheming.
Whereas angels, who are greater in strength and power, bring not against themselves a railing judgment.
I had written perhaps to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, doth not receive us.
Because thou sayest: I am rich and made wealthy and have need of nothing: and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
As much as she hath glorified herself and lived in delicacies, so much torment and sorrow give ye to her. Because she saith in her heart: I sit a queen and am no widow: and sorrow I shall not see.
Therefore, shall her plagues come in one day, death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burnt with the fire: because God is strong, who shall judge her.
