  1. For before these days rose up Theudas, giving himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed, and came to nought.

  2. But certain also of the strolling Jews, exorcists, took upon them to name over them that had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

  9. Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

  10. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

  11. let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,

  12. he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God.

  13. Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:

  14. whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

  15. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

  16. but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities:

  17. whereas angels, though greater in might and power, bring not a railing judgment against them before the Lord.

  18. I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

  19. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:

  20. How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.

  21. Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judged her.
