And he sayde, While the childe was yet aliue, I fasted, and wept: for I sayde, Who can tell whether God will haue mercy on me, that the childe may liue?
But now being dead, wherefore shoulde I now fast? Can I bring him againe any more? I shall goe to him, but he shall not returne to me.
And Ezra the Priest brought the Lawe before the Congregation both of men and women, and of all that coulde heare and vnderstand it, in the first day of the seuenth moneth,
And he read therein in the streete that was before the watergate (from the morning vntill the midday) before men and women, and them that vnderstoode it, and the eares of all the people hearkened vnto the booke of the Lawe.
And behold, there came a great wind from beyonde the wildernesse, and smote the foure corners of the house, which fel vpon the children, and they are dead, and I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
Then Iob arose, and rent his garment, and shaued his head, and fel downe vpon the ground, and worshipped,
And sayd, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord hath giuen, and the Lord hath taken it: blessed be the Name of the Lord.
Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the poore: thou preparest their heart: thou bendest thine eare to them,
To iudge the fatherlesse and poore, that earthly man cause to feare no more.
But the louing kindnesse of the Lord endureth for euer and euer vpon them that feare him, and his righteousnes vpon childrens children,
Vnto them that keepe his couenant, and thinke vpon his commandements to doe them.
His seede shall be mightie vpon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.
Riches and treasures shalbe in his house, and his righteousnesse endureth for euer.
Beholde, children are the inheritance of the Lord, and the fruite of the wombe his rewarde.
As are the arrowes in the hand of ye strong man: so are the children of youth.
Blessed is the man, that hath his quiuer full of them: for they shall not be ashamed, when they speake with their enemies in the gate.
A song of degrees. Blessed is euery one that feareth the Lord and walketh in his wayes.
When thou eatest the labours of thine hands, thou shalt be blessed, and it shall be well with thee.
Thy wife shalbe as the fruitfull vine on the sides of thine house, and thy children like the oliue plantes round about thy table.
Lo, surely thus shall the man be blessed, that feareth the Lord.
Withhold not correction from the childe: if thou smite him with the rodde, he shall not die.
Thou shalt smite him with the rodde, and shalt deliuer his soule from hell.
Thou shalt not be ioyned with them in the graue, because thou hast destroied thine owne lande, and slaine thy people: the seede of the wicked shall not be renoumed for euer.
Prepare a slaughter for his children, for the iniquitie of their fathers: let them not rise vp nor possesse the land, nor fil the face of the world with enemies.
For I will powre water vpon the thirstie, and floods vpon the drie grounde: I will powre my Spirit vpon thy seede, and my blessing vpon thy buddes.
