Bible Verses About Watchfulness
Key Bible Verses
Watch ye therefore (for you know not when the lord of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning):
Lest coming on a sudden, he find you sleeping.
And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch.
And she was a widow until fourscore and four years: who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray: and he passed the whole night in the prayer of God.
Take heed therefore how you hear. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given: and whosoever hath not, that also which he thinketh he hath shall be taken away from him.
Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness: for a man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth.
Let your loins be girt and lamps burning in your hands.
And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.
Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you that he will gird himself and make them sit down to meat and passing will minister unto them.
And if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so, blessed are those servants.
But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch and would not suffer his house to be broken open.
Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not the Son of man will come.
And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all?
And the Lord said: Who thinkest thou is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season?
Blessed is that servant whom, when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing.
Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth.
Who said: Take heed you be not seduced: for many will come in my name, saying: I am he and the time is at hand. Go ye not therefore after them.
And when you shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified. These things must first come to pass: but the end is not yet presently.
Then he said to them: Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
And there shall be great earthquakes in divers places and pestilences and famines and terrors from heaven: and there shall be great signs.
But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, dragging you before kings and governors, for my name's sake.
And it shall happen unto you for a testimony.
Lay it up therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before how you shall answer:
