  1. But the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rasin: and within threescore and five years, Ephraim shall cease to be a people:

  2. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Romelia. If you will not believe, you shall not continue.

  3. And the Lord spoke again to Achaz, saying:

  4. Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God, either unto the depth of hell, or unto the height above.

  10. For before the child know to call his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus, and the spoils of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of the Assyrians.

  11. And the Lord spoke to me again, saying:

  12. Forasmuch as this people hath cast away the waters of Siloe, that go with silence, and hath rather taken Rasin, and the son of Romelia:

  13. Therefore behold the Lord will bring upon them the waters of the river strong and many, the king of the Assyrians, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and shall overflow all his banks.

  14. The burden of Damascus. Behold Damascus shall cease to be a city, and shall be as a ruinous heap of stones.

  15. The cities of Aroer shall be left for flocks, and they shall rest there, and there shall be none to make them afraid.

  16. And aid shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus: and the remnant of Syria shall be as the glory of the children of Israel: saith the Lord of hosts.

  17. For behold I will call together all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord: and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all the walls thereof round about, and upon all the cities of Juda.

  18. Against Damascus. Emath is confounded and Arphad: for they have heard very bad tidings, they are troubled as in the sea: through care they could not rest.

  19. Damascus is undone, she is put to flight, trembling hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in labour.

  20. How have they forsaken the city of renown, the city of joy!

  21. Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets: and all the men of war shall be silent in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.

  22. And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the strong holds of Benadad.

  23. Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Damascus, and for four I will not convert it: because they have thrashed Galaad with iron wains.

  24. And I will send a fire into the house of Azael, and it shall devour the houses of Benadad.

  25. And I will break the bar of Damascus: and I will cut off the inhabitants from the plain of the idol, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of pleasure: and the people of Syria shall be carried away to Cyrene, saith the Lord.
