For which cause, forbearing no longer, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone.

And we sent Timothy, our brother and the minister of God in the gospel of Christ, to confirm you and exhort you concerning your faith:

For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us. For we were not disorderly among you.

Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.

Not as if we had not power: but that we might give ourselves a pattern unto you, to imitate us.

But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

For therefore we labour and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.

I give thanks to God, whom I serve from my forefathers, with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have a remembrance of thee in my prayers, night and day.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power and of love and of sobriety.

Wherein I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles.

For which cause, I also suffer these things: but I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day.

Hold the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me: in faith and in the love which is in Christ Jesus.

Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound.

Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.

But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and might cleanse to himself a people acceptable, a pursuer of good works.

Admonish them to be subject to princes and powers, to obey at a word, to be ready to every good work.

For you both had compassion on them that were in bands and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and a lasting substance.

And truly, if they had been mindful of that from whence they came out, they had doubtless, time to return.

But now they desire a better, that is to say, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

By faith Moses, when he was grown up, denied himself to be the son of Pharao's daughter:

Rather choosing to be afflicted with the people of God than to have the pleasure of sin for a time:

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasure of the Egyptians. For he looked unto the reward.

By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the fierceness of the king: for he endured, as seeing him that is invisible.
