  1. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all that mourn:

  2. From the beginning of the world they have not heard, nor perceived with the ears: the eye hath not seen, O God, besides thee, what things thou hast prepared for them that wait for thee.

  3. I have spread forth my hands all the day to an unbelieving people, who walk in a way that is not good after their own thoughts.

  9. Thus saith the Lord: A voice was heard on high of lamentation, of mourning, and weeping, of Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted for them, because they are not.

  10. Behold the days shall come, saith the Lord, and I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Juda:

  11. Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers, in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, the covenant which they made void, and I had dominion over them, saith the Lord.

  12. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my law in their bowels, and I will write it in their heart: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

  13. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: Know the Lord: for all shall know me from the least of them even to the greatest, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

  14. Sade. My enemies have chased me and caught me like a bird, without cause.

  15. Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a provoking house: who have eyes to see, and see not: and ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a provoking house.

  16. And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, that is without measure, and shall not be numbered. And it shall be in the place where it shall be said to them: You are not my people: it shall be said to them: Ye are the sons of the living God.

  17. And I will sow her unto me in the earth, and I will have mercy on her that was without mercy.

  18. For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice: and the knowledge of God more than holocausts.

  19. And the high places of the idol, the sin of Israel shall be destroyed: the bur and the thistle shall grow up over their altars: and they shall say to the mountains Cover us; and to the hills: Fall upon us.

  20. As the morning passeth, so hath the king of Israel passed away. Because Israel was a child, and I loved him: and I called my son out of Egypt.

  21. I will deliver them out of the hand of death. I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy death; O hell, I will be thy bite: comfort is hidden from my eyes.

  22. Return, O Israel, to the Lord thy God: for thou hast fallen down by thy iniquity.

  23. And it shall come to pass after this, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

  24. Moreover, upon my servants and handmaids in those days I will pour forth my spirit.

  25. And I will shew wonders in heaven; and in earth, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke.
