  1. And the man of God answered the king: If thou wouldst give me half thy house, I will not go with thee, nor eat bread, nor drink water in this place:

  2. For so it was enjoined me by the word of the Lord commanding me: Thou shalt not eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way that thou camest.

  3. So he departed by another way, and returned not by the way that he came into Bethel.

  11. And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but let me first take my leave of them that are at my house.

  12. Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.

  13. Abide in me: and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me.

  14. I am the vine: you the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

  15. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might,

  16. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  17. As therefore you have received Jesus Christ the Lord, walk ye in him:

  18. Rooted and built up in him and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned: abounding in him in thanksgiving.

  19. But thou, O man of God, fly these things: and pursue justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness.

  20. Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called and be it confessed a good confession before many witnesses.

  21. I charge thee before God who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus who gave testimony under Pontius Pilate, a good confession:

  22. That thou keep the commandment without spot, blameless, unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  23. Hold the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me: in faith and in the love which is in Christ Jesus.

  24. Keep the good thing committed to thy trust by the Holy Ghost who dwelleth in us.

  25. But Christ, as the Son in his own house: which house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and glory of hope unto the end.
