  1. Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, cutting off all evildoers from the city of ADONAI.

  10. "Woe to the rebellious children," says ADONAI. "They make plans, but the plans are not mine; they develop alliances, but not from my Spirit, in order to pile sin upon sin.

  11. For this is a rebellious people; they are lying children, children who refuse to hear the Torah of ADONAI.

  12. Whom are you making fun of? At whom are you laughing and sticking out your tongue? Aren't you rebellious children, just a brood of liars?

  13. I spread out my hands all day long to a rebellious people who live in a way that is not good, who follow their own inclinations;

  14. You are so clever in your search for love that the worst of women can learn from you!

  15. "It is because my people are foolish - they do not know me; they are stupid children, without understanding, wise when doing evil; but they don't know how to do good."

  16. All of them are total rebels, spreading slanderous gossip; they are bronze and iron, [inferior metals,] all of them corrupt.

  17. Because they are defiant, hardhearted children, I am sending you; and you are to tell them, 'Here is what Adonai ELOHIM says.'

  18. Whether they listen or not, this rebellious house will still know that a prophet has been among them!

  19. But you, human being, hear what I am telling you: don't you be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth, and eat what I am about to give you."

  20. "Human being, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes that can see, but they don't take notice; and they have ears that can hear, but they don't pay attention; because they are a rebellious people.

  21. "Since the days of Giv'ah you have sinned, Isra'el. There they took their stand. For these arrogant people at Giv'ah, war was insufficient punishment.

  22. But when Yochanan saw many of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim coming to be immersed by him, he said to them, "You snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming punishment?

  23. You snakes! How can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what overflows from the heart.

  24. He replied, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign? No! None will be given to it but the sign of the prophet Yonah.

  25. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come and live there -- so that in the end, the person is worse off than he was before. This is how it will be for this wicked generation."
