  1. But when Yochanan saw many of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim coming to be immersed by him, he said to them, "You snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming punishment?

  2. If you have really turned from your sins to God, produce fruit that will prove it!

  3. And don't suppose you can comfort yourselves by saying, `Avraham is our father'! For I tell you that God can raise up for Avraham sons from these stones!

  4. So when Yeshua said to them, "Watch out! Guard yourselves against the hametz of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim,"

  5. they thought he said it because they hadn't brought bread.

  6. But Yeshua, aware of this, said, "Such little trust you have! Why are you talking with each other about not having bread?

  7. Don't you understand yet? Don't you remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you filled?

  8. Or the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many baskets you filled?

  9. How can you possibly think I was talking to you about bread? Guard yourselves from the hametz of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim!"

  10. Then they understood -- they were to guard themselves not from yeast for bread but from the teaching of the P'rushim and Tz'dukim.

  11. That same day, some Tz'dukim came to him. They are the ones who say there is no such thing as resurrection, so they put to him a sh'eilah:

  12. "Rabbi, Moshe said, `If a man dies childless, his brother must marry his widow and have children to preserve the man's family line.'

  13. There were seven brothers. The first one married and then died; and since he had no children, he left his widow to his brother.

  14. The same thing happened to the second brother, and the third, and finally to all seven.

  15. After them all, the woman died.

  16. Now in the Resurrection -- of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all married her."

  17. Yeshua answered them, "The reason you go astray is that you are ignorant both of the Tanakh and of the power of God.

  18. For in the Resurrection, neither men nor women will marry; rather, they will be like angels in heaven.

  19. And as for whether the dead are resurrected, haven't you read what God said to you,

  20. `I am the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz'chak and the God of Ya`akov'? He is God not of the dead but of the living!"

  21. When the crowds heard how he taught, they were astounded;

  22. but when the P'rushim learned that he had silenced the Tz'dukim, they got together,

  23. Then some Tz'dukim came to him. They are the ones who say there is no such thing as resurrection, so they put to him a sh'eilah:

  24. "Rabbi, Moshe wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and have children to preserve the man's family line.

  25. There were seven brothers. The first one took a wife, and when he died, he left no children.
