  1. But the Pharisees and experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.

  11. When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’

  12. On its return, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.

  13. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there. And the final plight of that man is worse than the first.”

  18. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

  19. But Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘Look, I will keep driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach My goal.’

  20. Nevertheless, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not admissible for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.

  21. But Jesus replied, “A certain man prepared a great banquet and invited many guests.

  22. When it was time for the banquet, he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

  23. But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first one said, ‘I have bought a field, and I need to go see it. Please excuse me.’

  24. Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out. Please excuse me.’

  25. Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, so I cannot come.’
