  1. Then answered Haggai and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith Jehovah; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

  2. Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which Jehovah of hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets: therefore there came great wrath from Jehovah of hosts.

  3. And it is come to pass that, as he cried, and they would not hear, so they shall cry, and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts;

  4. And it shall be, that whoso of all the families of the earth goeth not up unto Jerusalem to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts, upon them there shall be no rain.

  5. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, neither shall it be upon them; there shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

  6. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

  7. And now, I pray you, entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith Jehovah of hosts.

  8. Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of Jehovah which he loveth, and hath married the daughter of a foreign god.

  9. Jehovah will cut off, to the man that doeth this, him that waketh and him that answereth, out of the tents of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto Jehovah of hosts.

  10. And this again ye do: ye cover the altar of Jehovah with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, neither receiveth it with good will at your hand.

  11. and now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are built up; yea, they tempt God, and escape.

  12. Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

  13. The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.

  14. Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

  15. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

  16. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!

  17. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

  18. And he said unto them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables:

  19. To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace.

  20. He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

  21. Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

  22. And even now the axe also lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

  23. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

  24. Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy: for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for in the same manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

  25. For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.
