  1. And Haggai said: If one that is unclean by occasion of a soul touch any of all these things, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered, and said: It shall be defiled.

  2. And they made their heart as the adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts sent in his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: so a great indignation came from Lord of hosts.

  3. And it came to pass that as he spoke, and they heard not: so shall they cry, and I will not hear, saith the Lord of hosts.

  4. And it shall come to pass, that he that shall not go up of the families of the land to Jerusalem, to adore the King, the Lord of hosts, there shall be no rain upon them.

  5. And if the family of Egypt go not up nor come: neither shall it be upon them, but there shall be destruction wherewith the Lord will strike all nations that will not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

  6. This shall be the sin of Egypt, and this the sin of all nations, that will not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

  7. And now beseech ye the face of God, that he may have mercy on you, (for by your hand hath this been done,) if by any means he will receive your faces, saith the Lord of hosts.

  8. Juda hath transgressed, and abomination hath been committed in Israel, and in Jerusalem: for Juda hath profaned the holiness of the Lord, which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

  9. The Lord will cut off the man that hath done this, both the master, and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering to the Lord of hosts.

  10. And this again have you done, you have covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and bellowing, so that I have no more a regard to sacrifice, neither do I accept any atonement at your hands.

  11. Wherefore now we call the proud people happy, for they that work wickedness are built up, and they have tempted God and are preserved.

  12. And you shall return, and shall see the difference between the just and the wicked: and between him that serveth God, and him that serveth him not.

  13. The people that sat in darkness, hath seen great light: and to them that sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up.

  14. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:

  15. Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

  16. But if thy eye be evil thy whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in thee, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be!

  17. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

  18. And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables:

  19. To enlighten them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.

  20. He said therefore to the multitudes that went forth to be baptized by him: Ye offspring of vipers, who hath shewed you to flee from the wrath to come?

  21. Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of penance: and do not begin to say, We have Abraham for our father. For I say unto you that God is able of these stones, to raise up children to Abraham.

  22. For now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire.

  23. Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

  24. Be glad in that day and rejoice: for behold, your reward is great in heaven, For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets.

  25. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
