  1. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

  2. And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

  8. Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother;

  9. in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

  10. And after them all, the woman died.

  11. In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

  12. But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

  13. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.

  14. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

  15. I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

  16. But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

  17. Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave a wife behind him, and leave no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

  18. There were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed;

  19. and the second took her, and died, leaving no seed behind him; and the third likewise:

  20. and the seven left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.

  21. In the resurrection whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

  22. Jesus said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye err, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?

  23. For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as angels in heaven.

  24. But as touching the dead, that they are raised; have ye not read in the book of Moses, in the place concerning the Bush, how God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

  25. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: ye do greatly err.
