  1. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

  2. And Abraham said unto God, Oh that Ishmael might live before thee!

  3. And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

  9. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

  10. And Jehovah said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, who am old?

  11. And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

  12. And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham that which I do;

  13. seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

  14. For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

  15. And the men turned from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before Jehovah.

  16. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou consume the righteous with the wicked?

  17. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes:

  18. And Jehovah went his way, as soon as he had left off communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

  19. And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Jehovah:

  20. And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

  21. And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the land of the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar.

  22. And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

  23. Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and wherein have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

  24. And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?

  25. And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
