  1. They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;

  2. Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am he ; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;

  3. and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'

  13. `Because of this doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that again I may take it;

  14. no one doth take it from me, but I lay it down of myself; authority I have to lay it down, and authority I have again to take it; this command I received from my Father.'

  15. and many of them said, `He hath a demon, and is mad, why do ye hear him?'

  16. others said, `These sayings are not those of a demoniac; is a demon able blind men's eyes to open?'

  17. but certain of them went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus did;

  18. the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrim, and said, `What may we do? because this man doth many signs?

  19. if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.'

  20. he who is loving his life shall lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world--to life age-during shall keep it;

  21. if any one may minister to me, let him follow me, and where I am, there also my ministrant shall be; and if any one may minister to me--honour him will the Father.

  22. and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.'

  23. And this he said signifying by what death he was about to die;

  24. the multitude answered him, `We heard out of the law that the Christ doth remain--to the age; and how dost thou say, That it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up? who is this--the Son of Man?'
