  1. and having been freed from the sin, ye became servants to the righteousness.

  2. In the manner of men I speak, because of the weakness of your flesh, for even as ye did present your members servants to the uncleanness and to the lawlessness--to the lawlessness, so now present your members servants to the righteousness--t sanctification,

  7. for when we were in the flesh, the passions of the sins, that are through the law, were working in our members, to bear fruit to the death;

  8. and now we have ceased from the law, that being dead in which we were held, so that we may serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of letter.

  9. that the righteousness of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

  10. For those who are according to the flesh, the things of the flesh do mind; and those according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit;

  11. for the mind of the flesh is death, and the mind of the Spirit--life and peace;

  12. What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that is of faith,

  13. and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive;

  14. wherefore? because--not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,

  15. for not knowing the righteousness of God, and their own righteousness seeking to establish, to the righteousness of God they did not submit.

  16. For Christ is an end of law for righteousness to every one who is believing,

  17. for Moses doth describe the righteousness that is of the law, that, `The man who did them shall live in them,'

  18. for the reign of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit;

  19. for he who in these things is serving the Christ, is acceptable to God and approved of men.

  20. So, then, the things of peace may we pursue, and the things of building up one another;

  21. And we ought--we who are strong--to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves;

  22. for let each one of us please the neighbour for good, unto edification,

  23. for even the Christ did not please himself, but, according as it hath been written, `The reproaches of those reproaching Thee fell upon me;'

  24. for, as many things as were written before, for our instruction were written before, that through the endurance, and the exhortation of the Writings, we might have the hope.

  25. And may the God of the endurance, and of the exhortation, give to you to have the same mind toward one another, according to Christ Jesus;
