  1. “‘You shall not take a wife to her sister, to be a rival, to uncover her nakedness, while her sister is yet alive.

  2. He shall not multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away. He shall not greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

  3. Yet you say, ‘Why?’ Because the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant.

  4. Did he not make you one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? Why one? He sought a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

  8. He answered, “What did Moses command you?”

  9. They said, “Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.”

  10. But Yeshua said to them, “For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.

  11. But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.

  12. For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,

  13. and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.

  14. The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

  15. Let shammashim be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

  16. if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior.
