  1. Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

  2. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

  3. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

  4. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

  5. That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

  6. Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

  7. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

  8. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

  9. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

  10. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

  11. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

  12. ¶ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

  13. To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

  14. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

  15. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

  16. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

  17. And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

  18. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

  19. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

  20. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

  21. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

  22. Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

  23. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

  24. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

  25. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
